Description

The limekiln, located at TF 87260423, is a disused structure dating from between 1841 and 1964. It is constructed of brick and is surrounded by soil, featuring a square plan. The kiln has a barrel-vaulted chamber with two opposing entrances, although one entrance has been blocked. Inside, there is a central pot with three chutes and air holes. Additionally, a later gault brick shaft was added to the southeast side, which is believed to have housed an electric sack hoist. This information is documented in the Journal of the Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society, Volume II, Issue 2, from 1977, pages 29-31.
