Description

Nos. 26 and 27 on The Green are a pair of semi-detached estate cottages built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from gault brick and topped with a concrete pantile roof. The cottages feature a symmetrical facade with two boarded doors and two 2-light windows, which are set beneath skewback arches with cambered soffits on the ground floor. The windows are made of cast iron and have small lozenge panes. On the first floor, there are three 3-light windows with metal casements. A dentil cornice, adorned with red brick dentils, runs along the top. The gable ends have stacks and gables that show tumbling-in, while a continuous outshut extends to the rear beneath a catslide roof. These cottages are a particularly well-preserved example of the many similar estate cottages found around The Green.
