Description
Hawkshead Farm is a house, formerly a farmhouse, that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with a northwest wing added in the mid-17th century. The building is cased in red brick and features a front range that was constructed in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It underwent alterations in the late 19th century and is now painted brick. The property has plain tile roofs on two parallel ranges, with the rear roof being taller and adorned with some fish scale tiles.
A central red brick stack from the 17th century has four square joined shafts. The front of the building has three windows, with the outer bays featuring late 19th-century gables and two-storey canted sash windows topped with slate roofs. The central sash window on the first floor is recessed and has a wooden lintel. The building is accented by brick dentilled eaves all around, and the eastern elevation includes dummy windows. Inside, a ground floor room in the northwest wing has a fireplace with a high chamfered lintel and a chamfered ceiling beam that features a mid-17th-century stop.
