Description
The Great Stables, The Harness Room Shop, and The Donkey Stables is a stable range that has been converted into conveniences, a shop, stables, and a garage. It dates from the late 15th century, with additions and restoration from the 18th and late 19th centuries. The building is constructed of red brick and features plain tile roofs, with one storey and attics.
The long range facing the Palace includes a central archway through the late 15th-century block, which has a crown post roof. To the left, there is a cross wing that has 15th-century brickwork on the rear elevation and late 19th-century imitation half-timbering on the front. The right part of the range creates a shallow courtyard. The 18th-century block on the right has a half-hipped roof and a chequered red brick gable end with an attic floor band. There are two and three hipped dormers on the east and north sides of the courtyard. A long rear central extension mirrors the style of the front range and features wood-mullioned diamond-leaded casements.
