Description
The Fox and Hounds public house probably originated in the 17th century, with significant enlargement occurring in the early 19th century. Further extensions and alterations were made in the 20th century. The core of the building is likely timber-framed, with later rendered stock brick casing and extensions. It has tiled roofs. One bay of the original building remains. The main range is two windows wide and two storeys high, with a central entrance and a rectangular fanlight above. Flanking the entrance are sash windows in reveals; the ground floor is banded and rusticated with low-relief rose ornamentation. First-floor windows are sash windows in reveals, and the building has boxed eaves and a pyramidal roof. To the right is a lower, earlier bay with a steeply pitched roof and a single sash window to the front, featuring dentilled brick eaves. A cross-axial brick stack is present. A 20th-century outbuilding extends further to the right. Sash windows are visible on the right return and rear elevations. A lean-to addition exists on the left return, featuring an entrance, a ground-floor horizontal sliding sash window, and a first-floor sash window. A stack is located at the rear left. The interior includes a chamfered ground floor binding beam, while the first-floor was not inspected.
