Description

Nos. 142 and 144 on High Street in Rickmansworth are a house and shop dating from the 17th century, with a front that was remodeled in the 18th century and later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is likely timber framed and features a whitewashed brick front with a steeply pitched slate roof. It consists of two bays and is one storey high with an attic. No. 142, located on the right, has a door and a glazing bar sash window on the ground floor, both with cambered heads, and an upper single-light casement window. No. 144 has a shop front. There is an extruded red brick stack at the right end, while the left end is roughcast with an exposed purlin. At the rear, there is a lower gabled range with a left end stack, along with further additions that are of no special interest. The interior has not been inspected.
