Description

A pair of semi-detached houses dating to circa 1840, with minor alterations and extensions in the 20th century. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick with painted dressings, shallow moulded bargeboards, soffits to the eaves and verges, and a Welsh slate roof. A narrow ridge stack rises centrally, incorporating 8 flues in line. The houses are arranged with a gable front to the street, and recessed entrance bays on either side.

The front (west) elevation features a wide central gable with a stacked sash window arrangement, each window containing 6 over 6 panes and lacking horns. Painted wedge lintels and bracketed sills feature to the windows. A blind window opening is located at the gable apex. Set-back lean-to entrance bays are present on each side, each with a shallow parapet to the front and rear, and a sash window above the doorway, matching the central windows. Each entrance bay has a painted doorcase and shallow bracketed hood, sheltering a panelled door with a shallow rectangular overlight.

The interiors have not been inspected. The houses form part of a series of paired properties, creating a notable feature of the east side of Hill Street, and combine with numbers 3 and 5, number 13, and numbers 15 and 17 to form a unified group.
