Description
John Bunyan's Chimney is a standalone chimney stack located in a small public garden in Wheathampstead, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with an enlargement in the 18th century. The chimney features three joined square shafts arranged in a T plan and has a large L-shaped base with sloped off-sets. The southwest side of the base appears to be an 18th-century addition that blocks the original inglenook. Inside the stack, a timber bressumer is visible. On the southwest side, there is a commemorative plaque honoring John Bunyan, who preached at the cottage that once stood on this site.
