Description
Croft Cottage is a house located in Wheathampstead, originally known as Keepers Cottage. It dates back to the 17th century and is timber-framed, with later extensions and casing in red brick from the 18th century. A further extension was added around 1965, creating a long stepped range in colour-washed brick. The building has two storeys and features five casement windows, with dentilled brick eaves and a plain tile roof. The right block has a higher roof and external end chimney stacks. On the first floor, there are two square 18th-century casement windows. Inside, the cottage retains heavy 17th-century beams and a contemporary staircase at the right end. The 18th-century extension includes one early leaded casement window, while the remaining windows are from the 20th century.
