Description
The West Barn at Bride Hall is a large 17th-century barn with 18th-century additions, located on Bride Hall Lane in Wheathampstead. The barn features weatherboarding on a brick base and has a plain tile roof. The original 17th-century structure is seven bays long and includes heavy mid-height purlins, curved braces to the tie beams, and a double purlin roof with some curved wind braces. Similar braces are present on the walls. There are gabled cart entrances near the center of both sides, with the eastern entrance having an 18th-century lean-to attached on the right. The western porch has a jettied gable supported by straight braces. Additionally, there is a two-bay extension on the southern side that dates from the early 18th century, constructed in a similar style but with much thinner scantling.
