Description
The Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century. It features a timber frame that is exposed on the north gable end and the rear elevation. The front and the ground floor of the rear are cased in 18th-century red brick, while the rear upper floor and the north gable end have 17th-century brick nogging. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a large ridge chimney stack made up of four joined square shafts. The layout follows a lobby-entrance plan, with one bay on each side of a half-bay center, and the staircase is attached to the rear of the stack. The house is two storeys tall and has three 19th-century glazing bar casements set in pegged oak frames. The entrance features a 19th-century door within an 18th-century chamfered wood frame, with segmental heads above the openings on each side. Additionally, the north end includes a single-storey lean-to addition from the 18th century.
