Description

Farmhouse. Dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, it originally comprised a hall and wing, with a later 17th-century chequered brick casing and a tall western extension. The interior retains timber framing. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The main range is two storeys high, while the wing is two storeys with attics. The main range has three 20th-century glazing bar casements, with the upper floor faced in red brick from the early to mid-19th century. An early to mid-19th-century door, with a reeded frame, flat moulded hood and blank fan, is located to the left of the wing. A similar door is positioned further to the left, with a lean-to at the far end and two segmental-headed ground-floor windows. The wing features a chequered floor band and tile-hanging to the first floor on the west side, above which are two gabled dormers. Inside, the portion to the east of the wing includes a two-bay hall, floored over, and a one-bay wing. Adjacent to this is a late-17th-century single-storey barn, now used as a kitchen. The hall’s roof includes heavy tie beams and curved wind braces. The 17th-century wing has a heavy clasped purlin roof.
