Description
Number 54, also known as the Old Forge Restaurant, and 54A is a house that has been converted into a restaurant and shop. It dates back to the 16th century with a facade from the early 18th century. The building features a double pile range, with the back range likely added in the early 18th century. It has plain and machine tile roofs. The front is constructed of brown brick with red gauged brick dressings and stands two storeys tall. There are seven closely set sash windows in flush wood frames, with the ground floor windows featuring 18th-century thick glazing bars and deep lintels. The off-centre door is adorned with heavy scrolled brackets and a deep square hood that has dentil courses. The door frame is from the 19th century and includes a reeded frame and margin-light fan. A thin floor band and a moulded brick eaves cornice complete the exterior details.
