Description
The walled garden and Doric portal at Lamer House is a Grade II listed structure. The rectangular walled garden dates back to the 16th century and was extended on the southeast side in the 18th century to create an L-shaped enclosure. An early 17th-century, or possibly late 16th-century, portal from the front of Lamer House was inserted on the south side of the garden extension in the early 20th century. The walls are made of red brick, with the earlier section standing about 3 meters high. The portal is constructed from limestone and features a single round arch with a keystone and a moulded architrave. It is flanked by single detached Doric columns with fluted shafts, and there are projecting entablature blocks above. The frieze includes triglyphs and paterae, and the cornice has been restored but is badly weathered.
