Description
The Fighting Cocks Public House is an octagonal, two-storey timber-framed building that dates back to the 16th century. It features a high-pitched, pointed tiled roof and has plaster filling. The heavy timbers are widely spaced and include tension braces. The first floor has two-light casement windows, some with broad glazing bars, set in flush, box frames, while the ground floor also has two similar windows.
There are various extensions to the building, including a contemporary two-storey extension to the northwest, which has a gabled, high-pitched tiled roof and a weather-boarded ground floor on the northeast side. A tall, square, tapered external chimney is located on the northeast. To the southwest, there is a one-storey pent extension that is weatherboarded and has a steep tiled roof with visible rafter ends, along with a stepped rectangular external chimney at the southwest corner. Additional later pent extensions of one and two storeys have slated roofs on the east and west sides. Inside, the main ground floor room features a beamed ceiling and an open fireplace.
