Description

Elm Tree House is a Grade II listed building constructed in 1904-1905 by architect Halsey Ricardo. It is one of a pair of identical houses, the other being 'West Field' on Hitchin Road. The house is two and a half storeys tall and features a double-fronted design with three windows and a central gabled entrance bay. The roof is tiled, and there is a brick stack with a moulded cap. The building is made of gault brickwork, specifically Arlesey White bricks, which is a type rarely used in Letchworth. The gables are weather-boarded, and there are brick arches above the segmental arched openings. The windows are mullioned casement style, with transoms on the ground floor and glazing bars. The entrance includes a half-glazed door and a later porch addition. At the rear, there is a one-storey, hipped service range.
