Description
The stable and adjoining barn at Tankards Farm date from the early 17th century, with the brick front of the stable added in the early 18th century. The structure features timber frames set on flint sill walls, with tiles used to secure the timber sill. The rear of the stable has an exposed frame that is infilled with red brick, while the gable triangle is covered in dark weatherboarding. The barn has some red brick infill but is primarily clad in dark weatherboarding. Both buildings have steeply pitched roofs, which are now covered with corrugated iron. The stable is a low, two-bay structure next to the house, while the adjoining barn is a taller, three-bay building, both facing south. They have clasped-purlin roofs, with the barn featuring jowled posts, straight braces to the tie-beam, clasped purlins on the collar, angled queen-struts, and straight wind-braces. There is a squint-butted scarf joint in the rear wallplate.
