Description
- 5255 TILEHOUSE STREET (North Side) Nos 81 & 82 TL 1829 SW 1/82 13.4.51 TL 1828 NW 2/82
II* GV
- No 81, which may originally have been the Tylers' Guildhall, retains much work of the C15: No 82 appears to be of the C17, though it may have been joined to No 81 at an earlier date. No 81, which was considerably altered in C19, is of 2 storeys beneath a hipped tile roof. The ground floor had three three-light mullioned windows beneath four-centred arches, each light headed with cinque-foil stonework. The Northern window is now blind, with plaster infilling: the centre window now has sashed casements superimposed between the stone mullions; a door has been cut into the lower half of the Southern window. Upper floor plastered, with 2 C18 sashed windows. The combined facade of Nos 81 and 82 is cross-gabled at West and East, with a gabled dormer over the middle section. No 82 plastered and pargetted. 2 storeys with upper floor oversailing. 2 casement windows. Carriageway on right shows the timber construction. RCHM page 121; VCH page 5.
Nos 70 to 75 (consec), Nos 77,78 and Nos 81 to 84 (consec) form a group.
