Description

The building at 4-6 Walnut Tree Road comprises two adjoining houses. The northern house, number 4, dates from the early 18th century, while the southern house, number 6, was built in the early 19th century. Number 4 is timber-framed and has a stuccoed sill; the exterior timbers are exposed and the front is clad in plastered panels. It has a steep-pitched thatched roof with decorative ridge detailing. House number 6 is roughcast and has a low-pitched slate roof.

Facing east along the roadside, the two houses form a group that is five windows wide; number 4 is one and a half storeys high, while number 6 is two storeys and two windows wide. Number 4 features heavy bay posts and long, straight tension braces. There are two double and two single eyebrow dormers at the eaves, each containing two-light casement windows with small panes. A framed plank front door is located near the middle of the building, with end chimneys. Number 6 has two-light casement windows with flush small-panes; these include a three-light window at the southern end of each floor. The front entrance is located near the southern corner, with a renewed panelled door set under a flat hood supported by brackets. A single-storey, weatherboarded rear extension is also present.
