Description
The Cottage is a house that dates from the early 18th century or possibly earlier. It was converted into two houses in the 19th century but has since been returned to a single dwelling. The structure features a timber frame that is roughcast, with a painted brick ground floor and a stucco plinth. A red brick central panel surrounds the entrance and extends up to the eaves, while there is a dark weatherboarded lean-to at the west end. The roof is steep and covered with old red tiles, with a hipped lean-to section.
This 1½-storey house has a central entrance plan with end chimneys and faces south onto the street. The symmetrical south front includes three gabled dormers at the eaves, each fitted with 2-light small-panes casement windows. There are also 6-light fixed flush windows on either side of the entrance and on the extension. The entrance features a wide segmental arch with twin doorframes that have moulded trim. To the left is a plank door, and to the right is a 6-panes fixed window above vertical painted boarding. The west gable reveals a heavy flat purlin and a large square wallplate end. The external gable chimneys are made of red brick and have offsets at the base. At the rear, there is a weatherboarded catslide outshut.
