Description
No. 66 High Street is a house that now functions as both a residence and a shop. It dates from around 1700, with a mid-18th century parallel rear extension and a 19th century wide lean-to extension at the rear. There is also a 20th century low polygonal shop extension at the front. The building features a red brick facade with black headers, while the 18th century extension is made of sandy red brick with some blue bricks. The roofs are covered with old red tiles, although the front slope and the lean-to rear extension are finished in slates.
This two-storey house faces east at the corner with The Valley. It has a stucco plinth, a plat-band, and a moulded wooden eaves cornice at the front. The front elevation includes two windows on the first floor, a central door, a canted bay window to the left, and the shop extension on the right. Inside, there is a chimney on the north gable and another on the south part of the rear wall. The windows are three-light casements, while the bay window features sash windows. The entrance consists of a half-glazed door with six panels. The rear wing has three windows on the first floor and an internal gable chimney on the south side. The building is included for its group value.
