Description

Cadwell Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a southwest tower added in the mid-17th century and a brick casing to the front from the early 18th century. The building features a timber frame resting on a sill made of pebbles and narrow bricks arranged in header bond, with roughcast on the exterior. The southwest tower is constructed from narrow red brick in English bond, while the south front displays a chequered pattern of red and black brick in Flemish bond.

This two-storey, T-plan house faces south and includes a projecting west crosswing. Attached to the southwest corner of the crosswing is a small rectangular tower with a pitched roof, which has a large projecting chimney featuring two linked square shafts at the side of the wing. There is also a large internal chimney at the junction of the crosswing and the hall range, which has attached shafts and a corbelled top. A single-storey service wing is located at the east end of the building.

On the south front, there is a projecting gabled wing on the left-hand side with a roughcast gable triangle above the brickwork. The ground floor has a four-light casement window, while the first floor has a three-light casement window. The south side of the southwest tower is roughcast, leaving the plat-band exposed. The hall range features three casement windows on the first floor, a central four-light casement on the ground floor, and an entrance near the east end. It appears to have a three-bay roof structure. The east service wing has a three-light window, and the west crosswing has three-light casement windows on each floor of its west side, along with small single-light windows on each floor of the southwest tower.
