Description
Anvil Cottage is a house located in Rushden Mill End, dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. It was extended in the 19th century and altered in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame with roughcast exterior and a machine-tiled roof. Originally designed with a two-cell lobby entry, it has been extended at both ends and consists of one storey with an attic.
The central entrance is flanked by three-light casement windows with flush timber frames and glazing bars. Three raking dormers have been inserted, two with three lights and one to the right with two lights. A central ridge stack with a rebuilt cap is present. On the left end, there is a three-light casement on the ground floor and a two-light casement on the first floor, with exposed wall plates. A lean-to addition is located at the rear left.
Inside, the cottage features exposed framing with large scantling and bracing in the walls. The original rear window opening has been blocked, and there are stop-chamfered binding beams.
