Description

The Cottage is a late 17th-century house located at Rushden Mill End. It is timber-framed with a brick base, and has been weatherboarded and rendered, with a thatched roof. The house originally comprised two rooms, and now has one storey and an attic. A central entrance leads into the property. There are flush frame timber casement windows; three lights to the left and two lights to the right. Two dormers with old leaded lights are visible in the roof. An 18th-century external stack is located at the left end of the building, and rendered behind its offsets. The right gable is also rendered. An outshut extends to the rear left and a 20th-century lean-to is located to the rear right, both with tiled roofs. Inside, the ground floor features chamfered bearers, cambered tie beams with braces from posts, and collars clasping the purlins.
