Description

Corrie Wood is a house built in 1908 by architect M H Baillie-Scott, noted as the most sophisticated of his designs in Letchworth. The house features an interesting open plan and is one and a half storeys tall. The south-east elevation, facing the garden, is characterized by large paired gables. The roof, originally hipped with low, sweeping eaves, was partly altered in 1923 by Bennett and Bidwell, resulting in a lengthened roof and the removal of the south-west hip. The exterior is constructed of roughcast walls with brown brick stacks. It includes mullioned dormers and casement windows with leaded lights, as well as a hipped entrance porch. The fenestration is irregular, adding to the unique character of the building.
