Description

Fox Cottage is a house, originally two dwellings, dating from the 17th century, with alterations and an extension built around 1980. It has a timber frame standing on a renewed brick base, with rendered walls and a steeply pitched tiled roof. The house is arranged in a ‘T’ shape, consisting of a two-bay lobby entry range and a two-bay cross range to the right. The left bay has a catslide roof over a 20th-century entrance porch. It has 1 and 2 light, small-paned, flush frame casement windows. A red brick stack is located behind the ridge in the entrance bay. The left gable end has 3-light casements. The cross range to the right has a taller ridge with a hip to the front, featuring similar casements and an entrance on the right return. A gable end to the rear right displays an 18th-century external brick stack, along with exposed plates and purlins. A 20th-century addition extends to the rear left, with a gable to the rear and an extruded stack. A catslide roof covers a lean-to with an entrance on the left end. Internally, there is some exposed timber framing, including jowled posts, stop-chamfered axial bearers, and a fireplace lintel.
