Description

Chantry House is a house dating from the 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th century. It is timber-framed and has walls of clunch, plaster, and painted brick. The steeply pitched thatched roof covers a single storey and attics. The front elevation features three casement windows; the ground-floor windows have leaded lights, while those in the dormers have glazing bars. The right-hand end walls are of clunch. A blocked 15th-century stone window remains, with traces of two cinquefoiled lights. 17th-century red brick stacks are located to the left centre and at the right gable end. A thatched lean-to with clunch walls extends from the right-hand end. Inside, two trusses enclose the central stack. To the right of the stack is a 17th-century cable-moulded beam. An inglenook fireplace is situated on the right end, blocking the earlier 15th-century window.
