Description

Westbury Farmhouse is a timber-frame house dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, originally built as a hall house with jettied cross wings. It has undergone alterations and additions, particularly in the mid- to late-19th century. The house is constructed with painted stucco walls and a brick base, set upon a timber frame. It is two storeys high and features four bays, with the central two bays containing wide-chamfered crossed floor beams, likely inserted later. The front elevation has four 2/2-pane sash windows in flush, moulded frames, with three on the ground floor being triple hung. A door towards the right has two flush panels and four moulded panels, topped with a cut bracket hood. A single-storey lean-to addition is present on the left end, featuring a sash window. A rebuilt stack is located near the left cross wing. The right cross wing has a two-bay rear extension dating to the mid-17th century, with sash windows in the rear bay. A large ridge stack with ovolo-moulded bays and 19th-century renewed shafts is present. A gabled stair turret with a leaded window projects on the east side.
