Description
The Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century, with a red brick front added in 1839. The northern bay has been demolished, and the original thatched roof was replaced with tiles in 1930. The building features a timber frame on a plastered sill and is roughcast, with red brick and some blue bricks on the front. It has a steep red tile roof and a slated rear lean-to extension.
This two-storey house is set back slightly from the roadside and faces west. The front has a symmetrical arrangement, with two windows on each floor and a plank door in the middle. The windows are two-light flush casement types. The door leads directly into a larger ground floor room that has an axial beam and a large open fireplace located in the south gable chimney, which is offset to the rear. A winding stair rises in the southwest corner of the house by the fireplace. To the left of the entrance is a door leading into an unheated parlour. The Cottage has been in the same family since it was purchased from the manor in 1839.
