Description
Number 9 High Street is a Grade II listed building that features a frontage from the 18th century, built on an earlier structure that dates back to the partly-medieval period. The building stands two storeys tall and is finished with cement and colour-wash. It has three sash windows with modern glazing, two small shop windows on the ground floor, and a central door. A parapet crowns the building, and to the right, there is a carriage entrance with a flat arch. Above this entrance is a canted sash oriel window with a canted roof. The rear portion of the building has an old tile roof, while the slates cover the rest. To the left side, there is an alleyway with a projecting chimney breast.
The main range of the building was originally an open hall from around 1500, featuring smoke-blackened roof timbers, an inserted floor, and fireplaces with a chimney that dates to around 1600. There is also a 17th-century wing at the rear that is set at right angles to the main structure. The building was previously listed in the London Borough of Barnet.
