Description
Hill House is an 18th-century red-brick mansion that has undergone many additions. The main block, dating from the mid-18th century, features two storeys and has a tiled mansard roof with three dormers behind a parapet. It has two full-height flanking bays with three windows each, and a central Venetian window on the first floor. The ground floor has a central door flanked by windows, which are now covered by a conservatory that fills the space between the bays.
To the left is a three-window, two-storey-and-dormer wing of the same period, along with a late 18th-century or early 19th-century three-storey wing beyond it. On the right, there is a lower, possibly earlier, long two-storey wing with a steep pitched roof and irregularly spaced windows. Beyond this wing is a 19th-century cottage and sheds. Most of the window glazing is modern, except for the late 18th-century wing. Behind this wing stands a taller, three-storey block from the 19th century. The building was recently purchased by Oliver Borthwick to serve as the Memorial "Morning Post" Home. It was previously listed in the London Borough of Barnet.
