Description
The entrance gates and piers on Dancers Hill Road at Bentley Heath Lodge were likely designed in 1865 by S.S. Teulon for G. Byng, the 2nd Earl of Strafford, as part of Wrotham Park. The structure features coursed limestone rubble piers and wrought iron gates and railings. There is a carriage entrance to the left and a smaller entrance to the right, both leading to quadrants that extend to the flanking piers. All six piers are square, with bases and cornices, and the tallest ones at the carriage entrance are topped with a lion and a unicorn, each holding shields. The smaller pair of piers to the right have pyramidal heads, while the outer piers are adorned with ornamented ball finials. The gates and railings are also ornamental. This structure is included for its group value.
