Description
Dairy Cottage and the attached garden walls at Wrotham Park Home Farm are an estate cottage built around 1856 for Lord Enfield, originally known as Garden Cottage. The cottage is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and has a Welsh slate roof. It is L-shaped, with one and a half storeys and two bays. The right bay projects and features a gabled roof, with a small-pane three-light window on the ground floor and a similar two-light window above, both set in chamfered surrounds with gauged brick arches and drip moulds.
An open timber-framed porch is located in the internal angle, resting on a brick plinth, with a hipped roof and a door leading into the right-hand wing. The raised verges have brick kneelers and coping. There is a stack on the right side and another at the rear left. The right return of the cottage has a one-light window to the right and a two-light window above that breaks the eaves under a gablet.
A brick wall projects from the right corner of the cottage, enclosing a trapezoidal garden plot. This wall features a gateway aligned with the porch, which has a simple iron gate. The wall has rounded brick coping and varies in height from approximately 1 meter to 2 meters, ramping up on either side of the gateway. At the southeast corner of the garden, a short section of the wall extends eastward and ends in a brick gatepier topped with a domed capstone.
