Description

The south range of shelter sheds and attached forge at Wrotham Park Home Farm dates from the 1850s, with the forge specifically dated to 1856 and the central section of the shelter shed range dated to 1854 and 1859. Built for Lord Enfield, the structure is made of red brick in Flemish bond. The shelter sheds feature arch-braced timber wall posts resting on chamfered padstones, with some sections covered in weatherboarding. The roofs are primarily Welsh slate, with some areas replaced by corrugated iron and sheeting.

The long range consists of shelter sheds with 4, 5, 4, and 6 bays, and a taller second section that was originally floored. The right bay of this section is weatherboarded and includes a second floor, while the forge at the west end has 2 bays. The shelter sheds are open-fronted on both the north and south sides, with a brick spine wall and weatherboarding at the eaves. The right bay of the second section features a boarded door with a boarded-up door above it, now functioning as a window. Brick kneelers support raised verges with brick coping. Inside, there is a tub privy located at the west end.

The forge includes three-light small pane windows set into the eaves, and its gable treatment matches that of the shelter sheds. There is an end stack on the left side, along with a stable door and a datestone on the left return. Inside the forge, there is a board stall partition with a ball-finialled iron column, a forge below a hood with bellows, and wooden workbenches along the walls. The roofs feature iron king posts, along with wooden angle braces, tie beams, and purlins.
