Description
The Duke of York is a public house, now functioning as a restaurant, dating from the early to mid 18th century. It has been altered in the 19th century and extended in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a tiled roof. It is tall in proportion, with two storeys and an attic, and has a main range of four windows. The central entrance is framed by a porch supported by fluted Doric columns. To the right on the ground floor, there is a 19th-century canted bay window. The windows are glazing bar sashes set in moulded timber frames with rubbed brick heads. A sign occupies the space of one first-floor window. There are plat bands between the storeys and end stacks topped with stone cornices. The building has two-storey hipped roof extensions on either side, each with entrances and sashes. To the right, there is a further lean-to extension with a loft door on the right return. The 20th-century extensions to the rear are not of special interest. The interior has not been inspected.
