Description

The Herkomer Monument is a chest tomb located about 20 meters north of the tower of the Church of St. James in Bushey. It commemorates Sir Hubert von Herkomer, who died in 1914, his wife Lulu, who died in 1885, and Lorenz Herkomer, who died in 1888. The faculty for the tomb was granted in 1887, and it is probably designed by Herkomer himself. The monument is made of Bavarian tufa and features copper panels. It has two steps leading up to the base and engaged shafts at the corners. The long sides are adorned with roll-moulded segmental arches that create recesses for inscribed copper panels, while the short sides have blank round-headed arches. The tomb is topped with a moulded cornice and a shallow pyramidal top.
