Description

This is a mid- to late-18th century house located in Ware. Originally a dower house on a footpath, it predates the construction of New Road in 1830. The house has a yellow brick front, a mansard roof covered in Welsh slate with a casement box dormer hidden behind the parapet, and a stucco-faced basement. It is two storeys and has an attic. A prominent first-floor band sits below a cornice band constructed from red brick and green bottle ends. The first floor has two sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat arches. A segmentally arched panel on the ground floor contains a canted oriel bay with a sash window. The front door is a four-panel design, with a dummy fanlight within a semicircular, arched reveal. A London Royal Exchange fire insurance plate numbered 72928, dated 1778, is positioned above the front door. A boarded passage door is on the left side of the house, and is also set within a semicircular, arched reveal with a dummy fanlight.
