Description

No. 13 Bluecoat Yard is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It has a timber-framed structure that is encased in early 19th-century red brick, with a later yellow stock brick extension at the rear, which was replaced by a garage in the 1980s. The building features an old tiled roof with a large rendered chimneystack located off-center to the ridge.

The house is two storeys high and has two recessed sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor and one on the first floor, all beneath slightly cambered brick arches. The entrance is on the north side, featuring a four-panel flush door set beneath a cambered brick arch, positioned against the stack, which creates a partial baffle entry plan. Internally, the roof truss and wall plates are exposed.

Although the building is not an integral part of the adjoining terrace (Nos 3-12), it forms a group with them, and its framed structure suggests it was built within fifty years of their late 17th-century origins. Christ's Hospital owned the property until 1894.
