Description

House, dating from the 17th century. The house is timber-framed and now rendered with pebbledashing and colourwashing, with an old tiled roof featuring two gabled dormers. It is two storeys high with attics. On the ground and first floors, there are two windows with three lights and glazing bars. A central door is set within a moulded architrave. The eaves are finished with a coved plaster cornice. This building differs from those that existed before Christ’s Hospital acquired Bluecoat Yard in 1685, including the Old Stables and No.1, and the “nurse cottages” (Nos 3-12). The house has a comparatively wide frontage and is only one room deep, although its general appearance resembles Nos 3-12, suggesting that an existing structure was remodelled to create a unified look.
