Description
Dolphin House, formerly known as The Dolphin Inn, is a building located on East Street in Ware. It dates back to the 17th century, with a refronting from the 19th century and rebuilding that occurred in the 1980s. The structure is timber-framed, featuring a front made of yellow brick that has been whitewashed, and a west elevation that is cement rendered and gabled. The roof is old and tiled, with two gabled dormers.
The building has two storeys and attics, with three 19th-century sash windows that have glazing bars set in reveals beneath stucco lintels on the first floor, and four sash windows on the ground floor. The central entrance is framed by a pilaster surround, with carved console brackets that support a modern tiled gabled doorhead. There is a two-storey outshoot, with a whitewashed brick ground floor and a first floor that features modern pargeting, topped with an old tiled roof that has an oversailing ridge line with a gablet.
