Description
The barns located 40 meters north of Broadoak Manor are two structures that have been repurposed for ancillary storage use. They form an 'L' shaped enclosure on the northeast side of the former farmyard of Broadoak Manor. These barns date from the late 17th century to the early 18th century and are constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding, topped with an old tile roof.
The east range consists of five bays and features a projecting central midstray on the eastern side. It has long posts without jowls, a braced tie beam with a queen strut roof, and walls that include mid rails and primary bracing. The north end of this range is partitioned from the north range by a weatherboarded wall, and the roof extends over the eastern part of the north range. There are tall battened doors on the west side that open into the courtyard.
The north range also has five bays, with similar construction details, including long posts without jowls and braced tie beams with queen struts. The walls again feature mid rails and primary bracing, with some reset timber from the medieval period, including a canted tie beam that has been reused as a mid rail. Tall battened doors on the south side provide access to the courtyard. The interior has not been inspected.
