Description
No 57 on High Street is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century or earlier, but it was remodeled and given a brick casing in the early 18th century. The building features a timber frame, with pargetting visible only on the gables and the upper part of the rear wing. It is encased in red brick up to the eaves level all around, with the lower floor of the rear range also in brick. There are tall internal gable chimneys on both the north and south sides.
The front of the house is symmetrical and faces west, showcasing a chamfered plinth, a brick floor band, and dentilled eaves beneath a steep old red tile roof. The house has two storeys and is three windows wide, with a central door. The windows are flush box sash windows, featuring 19th-century replacement sashes with two-over-two panes and flat gauged brick arches above them. The entrance includes a four-panel door topped with a flat hood supported by brackets.
