Description
The South Barn at Home Farm, located 70 meters south of the farmhouse, is a 17th-century structure that was modified into a barn in the late 18th century. The barn features red brick that is rendered on the exterior, with walls raised using timber framing that is weatherboarded, all beneath an old red tile hipped roof. It is a long rectangular single-storey building constructed in English bond, with arched openings on the north wall that are now blocked. A continuous horizontal timber is built into the rear wall at about 2 meters high. It may have originally served as a stable block for Youngsbury. The walls were raised an additional 3 meters in timber framing, and it has a 13-bay king-post, clasped-purlin roof supported by knee-braces attached to the tie-beams. There are three pairs of double doors on the north side and a corresponding opening on the south side, leading into a 20th-century lean-to that is not of special interest.
