Description
Water Hall Farm House is a house dating from the early 16th century, with extensions from the 18th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The structure features a timber frame that has been extended in red brick and rendered, topped with tiled roofs. It has a three-bay lobby entry with a parallel range added to the rear and stands two storeys tall.
The original entrance front now faces the garden overlooking the River Lea, with double doors located to the right of centre, flanked by three-light small pane flush frame casements. The left bay is broad, featuring comb pargetting and painted render that imitates large panel framing. On the first floor, there is a central single diamond leaded light, flanked by three-light small pane casements. A large 16th-century axial ridge stack is present, with bead moulding below the cornice and six clustered diagonal shafts. There are also two-light casements in the gable ends.
The 18th-century range at the rear is slightly lower and presents three bays on the current entrance front. The ground floor is brick, while the first floor is rendered, with a later gabled porch to the right of centre and two-light small pane casements. An internal end stack is located to the right, with a red brick gable end.
Inside, there is an early 16th-century stone fireplace featuring a flattened Tudor arch at the springing, richly moulded square head and jambs, and a plain chamfered base with blank shields and vine trails in the spandrels. The interior also includes stop-chamfered cross axial bearers.
