Description

Bayford Hall is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, marked as Old Farm on an estate map from 1758. It underwent alterations in the early 19th century and again in the late 19th century for the second son of Clinton-Baker, Lords of the Manor. The building is constructed of red brick with slate roofs featuring parapets, and it has red tiles on the open timber porch.

This two-storey house, which includes attics and a cellar, is a double-pile rectangular structure facing south, with a 1½-storey extension on the left-hand side. The front features twin canted bay windows, a central porch at the entrance, and segmental arches over recessed sash windows on the first floor, which have 2/2 large panes. There are three box dormers on the roof slope, a six-panel moulded door with a fanlight, and end chimneys on the two parallel pitched roofs.

The right-hand end of the M-roof has a central entrance that leads to stairs serving the kitchen located in the rear right corner of the house plan, which includes an old built-in dresser. The west wall of the original house has an early 18th-century single-light transomed window that is now exposed in the extension. The closed string staircase features turned balusters and heavy square newels leading to the attic. The southeast room on the first floor has an ovolo-panelled design with a contemporary 18th-century fireplace, while other first-floor rooms have similar panelling, cupboards, and doors with iron hinges. The ground floor interior was elaborately remodelled in the late 19th century. A fire insurance plaque inside the house displays clasped hands and the number 79373.
