Description
Orchard Cottage is a Grade II listed building that consists of two houses now combined into one. It dates from the 18th century or earlier, with the eastern part likely from the 19th century. The structure features a timber frame that is roughcast on a stucco plinth, with a weatherboarded apron extending to the heads of the lower windows in the eastern section. The steeply pitched thatch roof has three eyebrow dormers on the western part and higher eaves on the eastern part.
The western section is a three-unit, one and a half storey house with a central chimney and a lobby-entry plan, facing north. It has a red brick central chimney located a third of the way from the western end. The former gable chimney at the eastern end has another chimney built against it, serving the two-cell and end outshut, which is two storeys with a central entrance plan. The door on this part is now blocked.
The western front is irregular, featuring three three-light casement windows, a door, and three two-light dormers. The eastern part has two two-light casements on each floor.
