Description
Peartrees is a house dating from the early 16th century, originally designed as an open hall house. In the late 17th century, a floor and a central chimney were added to the hall, with a wood block marked 'WN. RS 1673' found loose inside the house possibly dating these alterations. The building features a timber frame that is roughcast, topped with a steep roof now covered in asbestos tiles.
The house has a small three-unit plan and faces north, consisting of two storeys in the western part, which is roofed as a crosswing, and one storey with an attic in the eastern part, which is divided axially into service rooms. The central chimney and lobby entry occupy the western bay of the hall. The northern front has three windows and a gabled porch, with a gabled dormer on the roof slope to the left of the porch. The central chimney aligns with the porch, and there is a gabled two-storey wing on the right featuring a half-timbered gable, with one window on each floor and an end lean-to extension.
