Description

The farmhouse at Cherry Farm is an early 17th-century house that incorporates a 16th-century south wing. It features a timber frame set on a stepped red brick plinth and is roughcast with steep old red tile roofs. The building is two stories tall and has a T-plan layout with a central chimney and a lobby-entry plan, facing east. There is a single-storey and attic rear service wing. The older crosswing at the south end has floors at lower levels, and its front gable has been altered to a hip roof.

Inside, the hall is located to the south of the central chimney, with a spacious stair that projects into the rear wing. The kitchen is situated to the north of the stack, with a narrow service room at the north end. The front range consists of five structural bays. The east front has three windows on each floor, with a door aligned with a tall red brick central chimney that features a moulded base and five conjoined diagonal shafts. The windows are flush three-light wooden casements with small panes, and the door is a four-panel flush-beaded type with an inclined hood supported by shaped brackets.

There is a 18th-century three-light Gothick window on the rear wall of the chamber above the kitchen. The 16th-century east crosswing has heavy jowled posts, cambered tie-beams, and a side purlin roof. Originally unheated, it now has an 18th-century external rear gable chimney serving the ground floor. The main range has a side-purlin roof with later arched braces bolted under the truss collars.
