Description
The Grimston Memorial and railed enclosure is a chest tomb located about 25 meters east of the Church of St. Peter in Tewin. It commemorates the Right Honourable Lady Anne Grimston of Gorhambury, who died in 1717. The tomb is made of limestone ashlar and features a moulded plinth and capping, gadrooned corner balusters, and fielded panelled sides. There is an inscription on one long side, with arms and a skull and crossbones in relief on the short sides, and an inscribed capping. Surrounding the tomb is a spear-headed railed enclosure, with the outer railings added in 1870 due to the number of visitors drawn to the tomb, which was noted for trees growing from its south side, said to be linked to the last and allegedly blasphemous words of Lady Grimston.
