Description
Tissimans, located at 10 High Street, is a building dating from around 1600 and earlier, featuring exposed post and panel timber framing and old red tile roofs with a steep pitch. It stands three storeys tall, with the front facing High Street showcasing two gable ends that jet out at the second floor, supported by carved consoles. The first floor has two prominent canted oriel windows with 12 lights, which are supported by brackets. The ground floor has a modern shop front with shallow bows flanking the entrance door. A central brick chimney stack features both round and square shafts. The long side elevation facing Basbow Lane displays all exposed timbering, while a three-storey extension from the early 19th century at the north end is made of brick and includes sash windows with wooden lintels. Inside, there is a pargetted wall dated 1545 in the west bay, along with some reused 16th-century scratch-moulded panelling on the ground and first floors. Each front room on the first floor features a plastered brick fireplace with a four-centre arch.
